Could India be a Manufacturing Base for eVTOL Aircraft?

The Indian Government wants to establish an eVTOL aircraft manufacturing unit in Indian Market.

Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has asked Beta Technologies to explore the possibilities.

Beta Technologies: Partner of Blade Group, which is already serving in India with its helicopter services.

Seeing the future of eVTOL, the Indian Government is aggressively trying to establish the eVTOL industry.

Jyotiraditya Scindia has visited America and Canada lately to discuss the eVTOL industry in India.

During his interaction, he said:

“… come and have a look at India… maybe exploratory, you can set up a manufacturing base in India to export to rest of Asia and the rest of the world and also look at service routes in India.”

Scindia also talked to various bodies to improve the aviation industry.

After returning from the visit, he interacted with the reporters.

He said that he has talked to various companies like Airbus and Boeing to establish MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) facilities in the country.

In the final words, Jyotiraditya Scindia said that various eVTOL companies could be induced to set up manufacturing plants in India.

eVTOL Sector

eVTOL stands for Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing. It is a variety of VTOL aircraft which uses electric power to fly.

Some companies like Uber are trying to use eVTOL as an air taxi. But the future of eVTOL is beyond an “Air TAXI.”

Other companies like Amazon has already tried to use drones for delivery purpose.

There are also various big players interested in this technology.

Embraer Eve UAM and Global Crossing (Global X) recently signed a Letter of Intent for 200 of Eve’s eVTOL aircraft.

Like others, Air Greenland has also wanted to purchase or lease a fleet of VX4 (Vertical Aerospace 4) eVTOL aircraft from Avolon.

The reason behind their agreement is stated as they want zero-emission air travel.

Undeniably, various projects regarding eVTOL are undergoing at present. It is reasonable to believe that eVTOL will be a reality in the future.
